"The water shortage is especially hard. We spend hours queuing, and sometimes we're forced to dig for water, but it's not clean."
After fleeing Sudan, Monira is now living in a refugee camp in neighbouring Chad, where she struggles to find clean water.
Your donation can help save lives in Sudan.
Devastating conflict is forcing families to flee for their lives, with 12 million people now displaced. While most have remained within Sudan, around four million have fled to neighbouring countries such as Chad and South Sudan.
Displaced families are facing extreme violence and grave human rights violations as they flee. Some refugees are walking for days under the scorching sun to find safety. They are arriving malnourished, sick and in urgent need of aid.
Many others remain trapped, desperate for a reprieve from the conflict. In places like North Darfur, there are widespread reports of executions, sexual violence against women and girls, and targeted attacks on people with disabilities.
UNHCR and its partners are working non-stop to assist new arrivals and provide emergency shelter and necessities, but the need is only growing.
The people of Sudan are facing war, famine and disease. Please donate now to help save lives.
In Sudan, women and girls are suffering.
Sex slavery, trafficking and forced marriage are becoming more widespread – with devastating, life-long consequences.
When food is scarce, women and girls are the first to go hungry. They eat last and eat least. Some have resorted to surviving on animal feed or wild leaves and berries.
UNHCR’s dedicated teams remain on the ground, saving lives and delivering emergency aid. But the situation is unbearable and funds are running out. Please donate now.

About Sudan Emergency
What is happening in Sudan?
In April 2023, fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Since then, around 12 million people have been displaced. While most are displaced within Sudan, over four million have escaped to neighbouring countries such as South Sudan and Chad. They are arriving at border crossings with little more than the clothes on their backs and urgently need safety and protection.
Since the start of the conflict, homes, schools and hospitals have come under attack, amid extensive looting and burning. The health system is rapidly deteriorating. Clinics are struggling to cope with a life-threatening shortage of staff and supplies.
Famine has been officially confirmed in parts of the country, while millions more are on the brink and face acute food insecurity.
UNHCR is on the ground delivering emergency aid wherever possible. Please donate now to help save lives.

How is aid getting into the country? Where does my donation go?
UNHCR, together with the rest of the UN, remains in Sudan in support of its people and continues to operate wherever it has safe access.
UNHCR has utilised cross-border corridors from Chad to Sudan to deliver critical assistance to families in need, including in several states in Darfur. Relief items such as plastic tarpaulins, blankets, kitchen sets, mosquito nets and solar lamps are helping families meet their basic needs in Sudan and in neighbouring countries hosting refugees such as South Sudan and Chad.
However, the people of Sudan urgently need more support. Please donate now to help ramp up the emergency response.
How does my donation help alleviate hunger and famine?
Your donation can provide emergency cash for hungry families, helping them buy food, medicine and other essentials. Your gift can also help UNHCR and its partners provide malnutrition screening and life-saving healthcare.
